Jen received her Associates of Applied Science degree in Graphic Media Design during 2023. She believes in lifelong learning and will continue studying to pursue an additional degree in photography.
Jen took her first photograph at the age of 13 with a Kodak Ektralite 10. She was first inspired as a child when her grandfather shared photographs of himself in WWII and landscape imagery while abroad. She continued the family tradition by serving in the Army and traveling as a military spouse. Through this experience she has been able to visit and explore many different regions in the United States and Japan. This experience gives her the ability to merge different cultural styles in her pieces. Jen settled in Yorktown Virginia with her husband and children after spending time traveling.
Jen’s work demonstrates how she is always on the lookout for images that could be captured to record the life of family and beautiful landscapes within nature. Her passion to capture imagery of forgotten nature is prevalent in her photography and designs.
I find it difficult to call myself an artist. I am a creator, a collaborator, and a record keeper of time. I believe that what I do is more of a documentation and visual description of emotions. Through my art, I share my struggles with Bipolar, Anxiety, ADD, Depression and PTSD. I wish for my viewers to engage with the partial disconnect always present in my mind. I use a range of style based on the emotions that I’m feeling while I create my art. I feel that expressing my eclectic thoughts combined with nature’s beauty creates cohesiveness within my creations. Themes in my work depict my love for my family and recognition of the beauty in Mother Nature’s creations. I’m constantly chasing the idea of discovering moments experienced while wandering off the beaten path. I seek out angles and views that are overlooked and capture imagery of forgotten nature, and humanity.
My chosen portfolio pieces showcase my well-rounded artistic skills and ability to work with a variety of mediums. I strive to continue challenging my unique creative process and seeking new artistic adventures.
